I've had a long working relationship with the company who manufactures the Webcoat Pendants. Their material and process is one that has been established since the mid century. In the twelve years that I have been creating pieces with this manufacturer, my goal has been to expand upon the capabilities of their process. I create wireframes and send them to their facility to spray coat the pieces with their patented material. For this particular piece I wanted to create a production friendly frame (only 12 connection points) that would exploit the material’s ability to span gaps and create a scalloped looking membrane. The company told me that this design could not be accomplished because the gaps were too large. I asked them to give it a try and that I would pay for any lost material. The result was a great success and I think we both benefited for the collaboration.
