The process of working on a piece with a manufacturer is always a push-and-pull. Especially on a piece that was previously produced on a small scale, using completely different technology, not intended for mass-production.

Moving from a water-jet cut and routed plastic part to an injection molded one allows for a broader spectrum of finishes and higher detail level but it does come with its own set of drawbacks such as sinks, parting lines, and a consideration of gate and push-pin placement, neither of which were an issue prior. To address some of these issues, we had to modify mating of various components and alter wall thickness. This then required subtle changes to every single component in order to bring the design back into balance.
