Charles and Ray Eames inspired us to appreciate the world by honoring “the uncommon beauty of common things.”
This exhibit uses Eames words to focus on the lesser-known aspects of their lives, revealing their appreciation of the value of humble objects and useful tools. Their insights about the simple pleasures of daily life will be illustrated with objects and materials available during their lifetimes and contemporary examples from the world around us.
Each year, the AIA Los Angeles offers a seminar series to help candidates get ready for the licensing exam given by the California Architects Board. One seminar is dedicated to each of the sections of the ARE and there are 2 annual California Supplemental Exam (CSE) Prep Classes. Seminars are led by instructors who bring their years of knowledge and experience to an informative review session that helps candidates to become familiar with the basic material covered in each section of the exam.
Friday, December 2: Zoltan E. Pali, FAIA, will be a featured speaker during the 12:30 - 2 p.m. session discussing Intricacies in Balancing Historic and New Building Skin Technologies

Please join the AIA Historic Resources Committee for an evening of preservation networking at our first Historic Happy Hour (H^3) at The Crocker Club in downtown Los Angeles. The Crocker Club is an adaptive reuse of the old Crocker Bank Building originally constructed in 1914 as the Citizen's National Bank by architects Parkinson + Bergstrom. Developer Tom Turner of T&T Construction redefined the vault and safe deposit box area into a 6,000 square foot lounge in 2009, complete with its own allegedly haunted Ghost Bar.
please note: The Crocker Club requests we respect their dress code
The seminar will cover the zero-carbon issues being faced by today's architects and will offer guidance on how to enhance architectural designs and productivity to quickly plan buildings that consume significantly less energy and incorporate low-carbon and renewable technologies. During the seminar attendees will be exposed to how IES' architectural analysis tool VE-Gaia, and its integration with Google SketchUp and Autodesk Revit delivers quick feedback at the earliest stages of design. Plus, the seminar will look at how to leverage our LEED tools for assessing performance credit levels quickly and easily throughout the design process. Where possible, at each session, IES customers will present and share their experiences and best practices.
